| | 20 August 2008 - Stoke Already Down, According to Paddy Power | | | Paddy Power are paying out on bets made by punters on Stoke to be relegated after just one game of the Premier League season! Cheeky beggars! | | 05 August 2008 - New season | | | The pre-season Premiership transfer market has barely getting started this summer, but there have been an awful lot of gossip and column inches written but very few of the big touted transfers being completed.
All of this transfer market in-action and pre-season preamble is just wheting the appetite before it all kicks off again.
Wimbledon was wonderful, Formula 1 is fine, the Tour is terrific and the Olympics will be a nice distraction but my football withdrawal symptoms are kicking in and reading pages about Barry and Ronaldos proposed transfers, or watching the friendly tours will not suffice!
I need competitive football!
Roll on Saturday 16 August!
The first weekends fixtures for the 2008/09 season have been added and you can now make your predictions. | | |

It may only be five weeks since Manchester United lifted the Barclays Premier League trophy at Wigan’s JJB Stadium after a titanic battle with Chelsea. But attention is now focused on Saturday, 16 August and the start of the new campaign.
Alex Ferguson’s men begin their title defence with a mouth-watering clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford, and new Chelsea manager Luis Felipe Scolari will start his tenure at Stamford Bridge with a home game against FA Cup winners Portsmouth.
Championship winners West Bromwich Albion face the toughest test of the newly promoted sides on the opening weekend, with an away trip to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, while Stoke City travel to Bolton Wanderers and play-off winners Hull City will take on Fulham at home.
The first clash of any ‘Big Four’ teams will take place on the weekend of 13-14 September, when Manchester United go to Anfield to play Liverpool and the following week, the Red Devils face the equally daunting task of going away to Chelsea.
Looking ahead to the final day of the Barclays Premier League season on Sunday, 24 May 2009, Arsenal are at home to Stoke, Chelsea go to Sunderland and Manchester United face Hull at the Kingston Communications Stadium.
For now though, supporters of all 20 clubs can enjoy a summer of transfer speculation while counting down the days to the start of the Barclays Premier League season.

| | 06 May 2008 - Weekend 36 Results | | | 276 days, 370 games and it finally came down to one final, tense Sunday in May. At 15:00 on the final Sunday of the season, with so much still to play for, the Premier League title, A Uefa Cup spot and the final two relegation positions were still undecided. But at around 16:50 (and most likely long into the night) it was Manchester United and Fulham who were celebrating. Fittingly on his 758th appearance for United, (albeit as a sub this time) Ryan Giggs scored the goal which sealed the 0-2 win at Wigan and with it the title. For most of the afternoon Reading were looking favourites to avoid the drop putting four past Derby, but a Danny Murphy header 11 minutes from time sent them down and ensured Fulham survived. Birmingham 4-1 Blackburn Chelsea 1-1 Bolton Derby 0-4 Reading Everton 3-1 Newcastle Middlesbrough 8-1 Man City Portsmouth 0-1 Fulham Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool West Ham 2-2 Aston Villa Wigan 0-2 Man Utd Premier League - As It Finished: Champions: Manchester United Champions League: Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool Uefa Cup: Everton Intertoto Cup: Aston Villa Relegated: Reading, Birmingham, Derby
They will be joined in August by West Brom, Stoke City and the winners of the championship play off final. I hope you all enjoy Euro 2008 and a long summer of transfer speculation! See you next season! Weekend 36 points The table See where you stand against your mates, in the MiniLeagues
